NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector (CRI)
Greg Wayman, is a proud CRI (Certified Real Estate Inspector) member of NAHI, The National Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. NAHI was established in 1987 and after 20 years has established itself as having the highest caliber of professional home inspectors in the U.S. By providing education from the field, monthly Chapter meetings throughout the country, regional seminars, and annual conferences, NAHI is continually providing the opportunity for all of its membership to rise to the top of their profession and be the best inspectors in the industry. Through promoting excellence and professionalism in the Home Inspection industry, NAHI now has over 2,100 members in all 50 U.S. states and Canada.
To become a NAHI Certified Real Estate Inspector, the inspector must prove that s/he is proficient and knowledgeable in the home inspection field. Each inspector must pass a comprehensive national exam that was designed according to AERA, APA, NCME Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (not an open book on-line quiz like NACHI), have completed over 250 fee-paid inspections, and maintain a minimum of 16 CEU’s of education per year. Once the inspector has attained the CRI designation, s/he must continue to conduct each inspection according to the strict NAHI Standards of Practice. They must also conduct themselves in a professional manner by adhering to the NAHI Code of Ethics, which prohibits the inspector from having any financial interest in the sale of the property. Each NAHI inspector is also encouraged to carry adequate Errors & Omissions and General Liability insurance.
Reputable Real Estate Agents, Mortgage Lenders, and Banking Institutions highly recommend that Home Buyers hire a professional home inspector to report the current conditions of the home on all home transactions regardless if it’s a new or existing property. These real estate professionals recognize the high level of professionalism NAHI CRI inspectors provide.
Being a Home Inspector in Nebraska and Iowa does not require any training, licensing, or certification. Anyone with business cards claiming they are a home inspector can be. In the Omaha Metro, there are over 100 individuals claiming to be home inspectors. Only approximately 30 of those are full-time, Certified (by a nationally recognized institution such as NAHI), and truly have the experience and knowledge to perform a thorough, professional home inspection. The rest are part-time or semi-retired “inspectors” that rely on an income from some other source and/or can’t prove their proficiency in the home inspection field by passing a national exam.
